Due to increasing COVID-19 community transmission rates in the DC-Metro region,
The Arcanists have postponed Tarot VI.
If you’ve ever been a part of an Arcanists event, we hope you’ve felt how much we value the safety of everyone involved. The Tarot Reading can't happen until it can happen safely.
We want to thank the backers of the crowdfunding campaign and the current ticket holders for their support. We also want to thank the donors who gave to our recent fundraising campaign, Arlington Arts & Theatre on the Run Venue Management, and everyone who was excited for the show. We’re bummed to have to wait even longer, but we hope to see you all when it’s safer to do so.
In the meantime, we’ll have to wait for the stars to align.

This page is a resource for frequently asked questions regarding postponement.
Q: Is the show postponed indefinitely, or are there new dates available?
A: There are new dates available! The show will now occur July 29 - August 21, 2022, Fridays at 7, Saturdays at 6, and Sundays at 2. We’ve added three performances (now twelve total) to make postponement as flexible as we can. Folks who already have a ticket can check out “Q: I have a ticket for the initial performance dates. What are my options?"
Q: Has the venue changed?
A: Nope! It will still perform at Theatre on the Run in Shirlington (3700 S Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington, VA 22206).
Q: Are the originally announced artists still involved?
A: We’re not sure yet. We’re still working through all the scheduling and contracting that comes with postponement. Everyone who had been under contract will get first dibs on being involved in the new show dates. But if they can’t do it for whatever reason they’ll get a severance fee for their pre-production work, no hard feelings.
Q: How does this impact the COVID-19 policy?
A: We’re not entirely sure, just yet. That’s because COVID-19 is really, really hard to predict, and we’re just doing our best to follow the science. If you’ve ever been a part of an Arcanists event, we hope you’ve felt how much we value the safety of everyone involved. The Tarot Reading can't happen until it can happen safely.
The Arcanists will hold a number of sessions to review the COVID-19 policy for the postponement dates. We must work closely with the venue and Arlington County to ensure we’re also following all of their protocol. That means the new policy isn’t available yet, but we expect an announcement before the new public on-sale date of April 1.

Q: I have a ticket for the initial performance dates. What are my options?
A: If you currently have a ticket for the initial performance run, you can exchange that ticket to one of the postponement dates or you can get a refund. Check your email for a message from Quill about how to to make that happen. If you didn’t get that email or can’t find it, you can reach him at quill@thetarotreading.org.
That said, there’s a little more you need to know. In order to keep things fair for folks who paid for early access, we’ve created an exchange window for the postponement. You can still request an exchange at any time, but it’ll be processed depending on how you bought your tickets the first time around.
Check out the questions below to find out more about what the exchange window is and how it works, why we’re doing it, what to do if you’re an IndieGoGo Backer, and how to find out how you bought your tickets if you can’t remember.

Q: How do I request an exchange or refund?
A: If you’re an IndieGoGo Backer or bought a ticket in December, you should’ve gotten an email from Quill announcing the postponement. The very easiest way to request an exchange or refund is just to reply to that email.
If you’re requesting an exchange, all you need to provide is the name under which the tickets were held, and the new date in the summer that you want to see the show. As a reminder: the show will now occur July 29 - August 21, 2022, Fridays at 7, Saturdays at 6, and Sundays at 2.
If for whatever reason you lost or didn’t get that email, you can also just email him directly (quill@thetarotreading.org) with the subject line “TICKETING REQUEST” or “REFUND REQUEST”. If you do it this way it helps if you have your initial order number if you know it, but all you really need to provide is the name under which the order is held.
(NB: if you are an IndieGoGo Backer who hasn’t yet claimed your presale ticket, the protocol is the same as an exchange, but you don’t need an order number. If you are one of these and considering a refund request, please see “Q: I am a backer from the Summer 2021 IndieGoGo campaign. What do I do now?” for info specific to you.)

Q: What is an exchange window, and how does it work?
A: An “exchange window” means that we’re processing exchange requests at different times, depending on how you bought your tickets. You can submit your exchange or refund request at any time, even if your exchange window has passed and even after April 1. (All exchanges are subject to availability.)
For the initial performance run, presale tickets and early on-sale access were available by backing our crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo in Summer 2021 before tickets went on sale to the general public in December.
Within each group, we’ll process orders by first come, first served.
If all the IndieGoGo Backers are processed before February 20, we’ll begin processing the December Buyer orders that are in and email those folks to let them know their window opened early.
In all situations, the regular on-sale date for the new show dates will stay April 1.

Q: Why are you doing an exchange window? Does this mean all the Seeker tickets will be gone before I get a chance to get one?
A: We’re doing an exchange window because there are only so many Seeker tickets available per evening, and the demand for those is always higher. One of the perks of being an IndieGoGo backer is to make sure you get first dibs on those tickets, and it’s important to us that we honor that during the postponement. The same goes for those who bought their tickets early in the December on-sale period.
Still, there is very little chance that the Seeker tickets for a given evening will run out before the public on-sale date on April 1. In fact, we added another weekend of shows to the postponement to help make sure that doesn’t happen. Still, we want to honor our commitment to our backers and early ticket buyers by giving them priority on exchanges first.

Q: If I’m not an IndieGoGo Backer and am a December Buyer, do I have to wait until February to submit my exchange request? What happens if I submit an exchange request for a show that sells out?
A: If you bought your tickets online in December and you know the new dates you’d like, please feel free to submit an exchange request as soon as you know. You do not have to wait until your window opens, that is just when your order will be processed.
Within each group, we’ll process orders by first come, first served. The earlier the timestamp on your request the higher it will be in the queue. (Please see: “Q: How do I request an exchange or refund?”)
Just to reiterate from above, there is very little chance that the Seeker tickets for a given evening will run out before the public on-sale date and we added another weekend of shows to the postponement to help make sure that doesn’t happen.
However, in the off-chance you submitted an exchange request for a show that sells out you’ll get an immediate notice of that fact from Quill the moment it happens and the chance to either change your request to a different ticket type on that day or change it to a different day.

Q: I just want a refund. Do I have to wait for my exchange window to open?
A: You do not! If you just want a refund, even if you’re just gonna buy tickets again later when they go on sale to the public in April, you can request that and we’ll process it within 72 hours.

Q: I am an IndieGoGo Backer from the Summer 2021 campaign. What do I do now?
A: It depends!
If you are a Backer who got a presale ticket as a perk and now want to see the show in the Summer, you can submit a ticket or exchange request right now to make that happen.
You can do this regardless of whether or not you already claimed your tickets before the postponement, or haven’t yet done so. (please see: “Q: How do I request an exchange or refund?”)
We know that part of the reason folks become Backers is for early access to Seeker tickets for the show. To honor that perk, we’ve instituted exchange windows so that IndieGoGo Backers get first dibs on tickets for the postponement dates. We’ve created an exchange window so your requests will have priority through February 20. That said, you can submit a request at any time. (Please see: Q: What is an exchange window, and how does it work?)
If you are a Backer and for whatever reason you now can’t see the show, well…first of all that’s a huge bummer, and we’re really sorry. But second, that means we’ll definitely offer you a partial refund for any presale tickets that you got as perks for backing the campaign equal to the regular sale price of $25 per ticket.
If you can’t see the show now and need to get a partial refund for your presale tickets, we will now mail you any perk merchandise that we had been holding for you to pick up at the box office. We know this situation is pretty crummy, so if this happens we’ll cover the cost of shipping.
If you are an IndieGoGo Backer and do need to request a partial refund, the only other thing to know is that, unfortunately, the 120 day period to process the refund directly to your credit card through the IndieGoGo merchant account has already passed.
That means that if you request a partial refund, the only way we can get it to you at this point is by mailing you a check. That’s not a problem at all for us, but we just want to be up front about it because it’ll take a little more time.

Q: I think I have a ticket, but I can’t remember how I bought it. What should I do?
A: If you had a ticket purchased either through the summer IndieGoGo Campaign or in December when they went on-sale to the public, you should’ve gotten an email from Quill announcing the postponement with information about the exchange process.
If you didn’t get that email, or can’t find it, you can please email Quill at quill@thetarotreading.org with the subject line “TICKET HELP” and he’ll help you out.

Q: Oof! I’m sorry to hear that. Is there any way I can help The Arcanists? Are you going to be okay?
A: Yeah! We appreciate your thinking about us.
Well, first of all: if you’re in a position to be vaccinated, and haven’t done it yet, please do it as soon as possible. Even if you are vaccinated and boosted, please keep wearing your well fitting masks in public, washing your hands, and avoiding unnecessary risks. We really can’t do The Tarot Reading at all if the community transmission rate stays this high, so one of the best ways to help is to help others by staying safe.

Another way to help is to spread the word, both about the postponement and then again on April Fool’s Day when the new show dates go on sale. Planning a show and then postponing is sometimes rough because a lot of times people don’t hear about the postponement, or then they forget about the show when it happens later.
And, as much as any arts organization can say “yeah, we’ll be okay” these days: yeah, we’ll be okay. With thanks to the board of directors for their diligence in monitoring this situation, to Arlington Arts and Theatre on the Run Venue Management for their flexibility, and our fans for their support.
That said, times are tough for the arts and this is just another hit for an industry that’s reeling. If you can, and you feel like making a donation, even a little goes a long way.
