The Tarot Reading Announces Incorporation,
Name Change & Benefit Celebration

ARLINGTON, VA-- The Tarot Reading, a pop-up interactive variety show series that has been produced five times since 2016 all over the Washington, DC region, are proud to announce their full nonprofit incorporation as The Arcanists, Inc. and an upcoming benefit in celebration.
The Arcanists (that’s “ar-cane-ists”, taking inspiration from their arcane origins in The Tarot Reading) were founded with the mission to produce entertainments that tell honest stories which bond artists and audiences together. The Arcanists do this by creating platforms through which artists can be themselves, and share their own, true stories. Shows are created with interactive participation, where audiences are invited to engage and influence an artist’s story creating in the moment a new, true story together.
The company was founded around the production of the now flagship program, The Tarot Reading, an interactive variety show inspired by the Tarot mythos that has been produced five times since 2016 to overwhelming critical acclaim. It was called “one of the cities more unique offerings” by DCist and a “wholly new framework for experiencing live theater...not something esoteric yet something inexplicably connecting...a captivating catharsis not to be missed” by DC Metro Theatre Arts.
“Rest assured--Tarot isn’t going anywhere,” says Executive Producer Quill Nebeker. “On the contrary, fans of The Tarot Reading have a lot to look forward to. We founded the company to support the show’s growth. Tarot even inspired the new name, Ar-cane-ists.”
To celebrate the company’s formation, The Arcanists will hold a benefit brunch on November 9, 2019 at Blackfinn Ameripub. At this fundraiser social, audiences can experience the magic The Tarot Reading has inspired through an installed performance, The Living Collection. This installation is a collection of one-on-one, interactive stories about Tarot sacrifices performed by those who sacrificed them. Afterward, The Arcanists will announce the launch of two new performance series.
Tickets to this fundraiser include a classic American-style buffet with bacon, eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit and more. Ticket also includes a drink token good for your choice of mimosa, strawberry champagne, bloody mary or Irish coffee.
“As a nonprofit, we can do even more,” says Nebeker. “Without leaking too much, we have a couple new exciting shows coming up. They’ll be very different from Tarot, but at the same time there will be some recognizable hallmarks--devised performances, interactivity, nonfiction storytelling. This is just the beginning.
